During the summer, your scalp naturally becomes oilier because of the heat, sweating, and frequent swimming. However, that doesn't mean your hair extensions should be washed more often. The washing routine remains much the same as during the rest of the year, although choosing the right products becomes even more important.
For most people, washing hair extensions once or twice a week is ideal. Washing too often removes the natural oils that help protect keratin bonds from drying out, while washing too infrequently allows sweat, salt, chlorine, and product residue to build up around the roots. Always choose a sulfate-free shampoo. Harsh sulfates gradually weaken keratin bonds by breaking down the adhesive with repeated use. Hair masks and oils even premium ones should only be applied from the mid-lengths to the ends, keeping them well away from the bonds. Oils can soften keratin if they remain in direct contact for extended periods.
